New York Yankees Face New Injury To Oswald Peraza

By Samantha Stephensen

The New York Yankees got a scare when they saw shortstop Oswald Peraza face serious discomfort in his shoulder. The discomfort came after back-to-back games, with the team helping him get checked out in the coming days in order to figure out how severe it is.

The team was supposed to be getting ready to play on Thursday night, but Peraza was spotted in street clothes and leaving the stadium while the rest of the team continued to warm up. Peraza stated that his shoulder was bothering him, which has been a recurring thing for him. In the past couple of weeks, he’s been sidelined quite a bit with shoulder tightness. His return for a few days, only to reaggravate that injury, could be concerning for this season.

Now look, Peraza might not have been able to crack into the big-league roster coming out of Spring Training with the Yankees. This is mostly due to how loaded up the infield is for the club already. However, the team would still very much prefer Peraza to get consistent playing time in Triple-A, and if he isn’t able to go, it would be a serious disappointment for them.

New York Yankees Have Faith In Peraza

In 2022, we were able to see Peraza debut for New York. He didn’t play much, appearing in only 18 total games, but he showed some potential if he continued to develop. He had a line of .306/.404/.429 in 49 at-bats. Unfortunately, in 2023, he appeared in 52 games and saw his numbers go down across the board. He had a line of .191/.267/.272 in those appearances. Still, the club feels like there’s a lot of potential for him to improve, and a nagging shoulder injury would hinder that progress moving forward, even if he doesn’t end up on the big-league roster straight away.
