Ivan Barbashev scored twice in the third period and Logan Thompson made 39 saves to lead the visiting Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night.
Pavel Dorofeyev and Jack Eichel also scored goals and William Karlsson had two assists for Vegas (40-25-8, 88 points) which extended its points streak to five games (4-0-1) while completing its second straight regular-season series sweep of the Jets with a victory.
Thompson won his fourth consecutive start, allowing just one goal in each game.
Sean Monahan scored for Winnipeg (44-23-6, 94 points) which lost its fifth straight game (0-4-1). Connor Hellebuyck stopped 23 of 25 shots.
Vegas took a 1-0 lead at the 15:56 mark of the opening period when Dorofeyev fired a wrist shot from near the left faceoff dot past a screen and into the top far right corner of the net for his 12th goal of the season.
Winnipeg tied it early in the second period when Monahan deflected a Nikolaj Ehlers shot from the right point over Thompson’s right shoulder for Monahan’s 23rd goal and 10th since joining the Jets in a Feb. 2 trade from the Montreal Canadiens.
The Jets missed an excellent chance to take the lead midway through the third period when Ehlers, alone in the right circle, fired a shot at an open right side of the goal into the side of the net.
Barbashev then put Vegas back in front with 5:29 to go when he snapped a backhand shot over Hellebuyck’s right shoulder and into the top left corner of the net.
Winnipeg pulled Hellebuyck for an extra attacker with 2:05 remaining and Barbashev sealed the win with an empty-netter, his 18th goal of the season, with 1:45 to go.
Eichel then added another empty-netter with 34 seconds left to finish the scoring.
