FAU Men’s Basketball Recruiting News
News broke on Monday afternoon, that FAU landed their second international recruit in 72 hours as Jon Rothstein reported on Twitter that German Native Max Langenfeld, a 6’6 G/F would be committing to FAU.
The 20-year-old is well equipped with German Pro League experience, where he started with Division 3 squad Ehingen Urspring, where he averaged 6.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in his final season in ‘22, before signing with Orange Academy, which is in the second tier of German Pro leagues.
In his first season with the Academy, he doubled his averages from Urspring, putting up 12.4 PPG 3.6 RPG and 2.2 APG. He eventually received the Call up to Ratiopharm Ulm of the BBL which is the highest rated German Pro league that same year, playing in 6 games and recording 25 minutes.
He found his stride in this most recent season with Orange academy, averaging 22.8 PPG 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists, while also playing in 9 games for the BBL squad averaging 1.2 points in 4.8 minutes per game.
Max brings immediate pro league experience to FAU and is another versatile guard for this team as he has the ability to be a playmaker, but also has an extremely deep offensive repertoire to work with. At 6’6 195, he has the size to attack extremely strong to the rim, and isn’t just limited to the drive, as he converted at a 39.2% clip from deep in this past season with Orange Academy. His mid range jumper was effective as well, as his tape shows an ability to shoot off the drive and in a catch and shoot situation.
This is another potential day one impact player as Langenfeld comes in with 2 years of German Pro League experience and because of that, has developed to a point where his game can translate immediately into the D1 Level.
Max shares a lot of similarities with Amar Amkou Diop who committed on Saturday evening, as both are very versatile guards who have the ability to stretch the floor and make an impact offensively in a variety of ways.
That makes 5 recruits and 8 total scholarship players now for Jakus & Co. as Max and Amar join Kaleb Glenn, Aj Staton-McCray and Leland Walker along with Tre Carroll, Devin Vanterpool, and Jakel Powell, who are the only scholarship players currently retained from the previous regime. That would leave the Owls with 4 scholarships remaining and with no true big man currently on the roster, one could expect a move in that department to be on the docket in the near future.
Jakus has been able to bring in players internationally and stateside through the portal, and with an ability to do both effectively, he should have a wide pool of players to wade through for these final 4 spots.
