Tuesday 6/18 – Parx Race 6
After a successful trip to the northwest corner of Pennsylvania, we make the trip back home to Southeastern PA for the sixth race at Parx today, which is a maiden claiming race for fillies and mares going six and a half furlongs on the main track. Post time for today’s race is 2:59 pm Eastern time.
The weather should be fine except for the heat. The eastern part of the United States is in the starts of the first heat wave of 2024. We should expect dry conditions which would mean a fast track, but it may be a bit uncomfortable on the Bensalem apron if you are able to be live in person for the Tuesday card. Luckily, Parx will miss most of the heat this week as today is the final day of racing for this race week.
Favored in today’s race in this race at Parx is the 7 Miss Cinnamon (8/5 morning line) who is starting to become a professional maiden. She has run 11 times in her career and did actually win a race two races back but was disqualified for drifting out in the stretch. She is dropping from a maiden special weird where she was on the rail and gave way going two turns in an off the turf event. She has the best numbers, but will be win?
The 2 Racey Ruby (6/1 ML) is a first time starter who has had some nice works leading up to her debut. Social Inclusion bred horses don’t win first time out, especially as three-year-olds, but she looks like she will be ready to run here today.
The 6 Royal Upstart (5/2 ML) will start for the third time here at Parx after starting her career in Florida. She moves up the maiden claiming ranks here after finishing second last time out closing well against that field last month.
The 5 Napolitan (6/1 ML) is the other first-time starter here and she has an interesting workout tab here. Her last workout 11 days ago was a rare one-mile workout. Not sure why that was done, but something tells me she will be in longer races once she breaks her maiden. I imagine she might be an off the pace runner today.
If Miss Cinnamon hadn’t raced eleven times already, I would say this is a stone-cold lock that she wins today. But we know that nothing is guaranteed. I am going to try to beat her with the first time starter here with Racey Ruby. I’ll call this 2-7-6-5 and my play is $20 to win on the 2. Good luck everyone!

- Keep an eye on the weather on the east coast this week. Presque Isle Downs, which I featured on Monday’s Quills Picks Winners article, and Finger Lakes in New York State both have moved up their post times by two hours to avoid the worst of the first heatwave of the east coast this year. There may be more post times changes or cancellations this week due to the first heat wave of 2024.
- Some of the horses that have raced in the Triple Crown series this year will be descending upon Thistledown on Saturday for the Ohio Derby. Horses that have been entered in the mile and an eighth race in North Randall, Ohio include Mugatu, Catching Freedom and Parx local Uncle Heavy.
Check out my show “Also Eligible” on Saturday mornings at 10 am Eastern/7 am Pacific as AJ Johnson and I discuss the big races, the latest news in horse racing and much more!
