Durant passes Moses Malone on all-time NBA scoring list

We’ve all known that Kevin Durant is one of the best scorers that the league has ever seen, and he’s continuing to prove that for years into his professional career. Most recently, he was able to surpass Moses Malone and get himself into the top 10 on the all-time NBA scoring list.

The 35-year-old needed 17 points in the Phoenix Suns matchup against the Denver Nuggets, and he wound up finishing with 30. The Suns ultimately lost the game and Durant shot eight for 25 from the field, but it didn’t matter.  Durant still went on to make history by bringing his points total up to 27,423. Moses Malone had 27,409 by the end of his basketball career.

Durant has been in the league for 17 years now and has missed out on a season thanks to an Achilles injury. Throughout his entire career, Durant’s averaged a little over 27 points per game. In fact, he’s currently averaging 31.3 points per game, helping him move into 11th place earlier this season when he surpassed Elvin Hayes on November 21st.

At this point, he’s marking down the next closest scorer on the list and thinking of how many games it’ll take to move further up. Right now, Carmelo Anthony is in front of Durant in ninth place with 28,289 points. There’s a chance Durant passes him in another month or two.

In eighth place, Shaquill O’Neal has 28,596 points, another player that KD could usurp in a few months. The remainder of the list gets a little harder to pass over. LeBron James is atop the list with 39,124, then Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 38,397. Third is Karl Malone with 36,928, followed by Kobe Bryant (33,643), Michael Jordan (32,292), Dirk Nowitzki (31,560), and Wild Chamberlain (31,419). While Durant can take over two more spots on the list this season, he has his work cut out for him if he plans to move up even further.
