The Edmonton Oilers acquired Ty Emberson from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for fellow defenseman Cody Ceci and a 2025 third-round draft pick.
Both teams announced the trade on Sunday night.
Emberson, 24, made his NHL debut last season and contributed one goal, nine assists, 46 blocks and 94 hits in 30 games with the Sharks. He was originally drafted in the third round by the Arizona Coyotes in 2018.
Ceci, 30, had 25 points (five goals, 20 assists) in 79 games with the Oilers in 2023-24. He has 211 points (48 goals, 163 assists) in 786 career games with the Ottawa Senators (2013-19), Toronto Maple Leafs (2019-20), Pittsburgh Penguins (2020-21) and Edmonton.
“Cody is a solid, competitive veteran defenseman who brings a well-rounded skill set to our group,” Sharks general manager Mike Grier said. “He’s a strong penalty killer who can also contribute offensively and he brings extensive playoff experience. We’re excited to have him join our organization.”
Ceci has posted 19 points (four goals, 15 assists) in 88 career Stanley Cup playoff games. He was a first-round draft pick (15th overall) by Ottawa in 2012.
