A rainy Boca Raton set the scene for an important matchup in the quarterfinals of the AAC tournament. No. 4 seeded FAU hosted rival no. 5 seeded FIU (5-5-6, 3-2-3) in the first round of the American Athletic Conference championship.
The only American Athletic match played on Saturday was between FAU and Charlotte (8-2-5, 3-2-2 AAC). If Florida Atlantic was able to win or draw they would find themselves in the conference tournament. Well, on senior night the Owls decided to not just win, but to dominate the match from start to finish to extend the season to next week.
Florida Atlantic touched down in the land of the delta blues to face conference leading Memphis (7-6-2, 4-1-1). The Tigers came into the match with a two match losing streak while the Owls had a three match winning streak. A strong second half by Memphis led to an Owls loss in a pivotal conference match to end the streaks altogether.
It took 54 days, but Florida Atlantic has finally finished their match against Stetson (4-5-4, 3-0-1 ASUN). The match, scheduled for August 29, was delayed in the 52nd minute due to weather. Both teams found an opening to finish the match on Oct. 22. The Owls earned the victory against the Hatters to extend their win streak to four before two important AAC contests to close out the season.
Rain, ten on ten soccer, and late game heroics is the brief story to explain what happened in the match between rivals FAU and FIU. Down 1-0, FAU responded with two goals in the final ten minutes to win their third straight against Florida International (4-5-4) (2-2-1 AAC) in heroic fashion.
The final mid-week match for the Owls in the 2024 season pitted FAU against FGCU (2-7-2, 1-1-1 ASUN). The final non-conference match for the Owls gave the team a boost of confidence heading into the final three weeks of AAC play as Florida Atlantic surged in the second half to get past FGCU 3-0.
The rain clouds moved out of Paradise to create a beautiful day for soccer. The Owls took advantage of the evening, earning three points and their first AAC conference victory against the USF Bulls (4-2-4) (2-2 AAC) in front of a ten-year record crowd.
Florida Atlantic traveled to Tulsa in search of their first conference win of the season. The win must wait for FAU as a late penalty kick goal gave the Golden Hurricanes (2-7-1) (1-2) their first conference win and second win of the year instead.
The Temple Owls migrated to South Florida to face Florida Atlantic for FAU’s second conference match of the season. In the face-off of the Owls it was a 1-1 final as neither team could find a second goal.
