Albert Hammond Jr. says it never rains in southern California, and at least for now, there is no rain there as we head to Santa Anita for two races today. We will take a look at two different California-bred races here as we will look at race 7, which is the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mire Turf Sprint
Let’s head west today as we will stop off at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas for Friday’s eighth race, which is an optional claimer going the Preakness distance of a mile and three sixteenths of a mile. Rain will be falling into the morning hours on Friday, so I would expect a sloppy to muddy track at the Arkansas oval.
After a race Tampa Bay Downs, we had to New York for Thursday’s Quills Picks Winners. Today’s race is the seventh race on an eight-race card at Aqueduct. We have nine fillies and mares aged four-year-olds and up heading to the gate, but we have a rare, coupled entry on our hands today for this six-furlong test.
We had to some drier land today and we’ll take a look at the finale of Wednesday’s Tampa Bay Downs card for today’s QPW. Fillies and mares who are four years old and up are going seven furlongs on the main track here.
We stay at Parx for the Tuesday edition of Quills Picks Winners as we will take a look at the sixth race once again, and with the predictability of the sun rising in the east, the Daily Racing Form chose the sixth race.
Monday 1/8/24 – Parx Race 6
Let’s head home today, or at least where I call home as we will head to Parx for race 6 for today’s Quills Picks Winners. We did have the winter storm pass through on Saturday, though most of it was rain where I am in Northeast Philadelphia and where the track is in Bensalem, PA.
Let’s head out to Santa Anita for their feature race of the day, the Grace 3 Santa Ynez Stakes going 7 furlongs on the main track. This race is for three-year-old fillies and is part of the Road to the Kentucky Oaks series
Drum Roll Please powered by a front-running El Grande O on a gray day at Aqueduct on Saturday to win the 154th running of the $150,000 Jerome Stakes, earning 10 points in the Kentucky Derby standings.
Let’s head down to Gulfstream for today’s tenth race on the race. This race is the $100,000 Limehouse Stakes with seven three-year-old horses going six furlongs on the main track. Post time for the penultimate race on the 11-race Gulfstream Park card is approximately 4:30 pm Eastern Time.
