AAC conference play is not going to be easy, and the Owls found out the hard way tonight. The Charlotte 49ers defended home court and upset #17 FAU 70-68.
The first half brought back memories of the FGCU loss, but the Owls didn’t let the slow start phase them. FAU outscored ECU 44-28 in the second half and used 20-point performances from both Alijah Martin and Johnell Davis to defeat the Pirates 79-64.
It was a battle of a past Cinderella (FGCU) against a team trying to avoid that title (FAU) and it resulted in FGCU coming out on top. The Eagles, who were ranked 226th on Ken Pom upset #7 FAU at home in front of a sellout crowd 72-68 and gave the Owls their second Q4 loss of the year.
Hunting season for the FAU Owls once again commenced this past November, and with it, an ever-growing list of prey.
It took 2 rounds of free basketball and a whole lot of heart, but the Owls got it done. #14 FAU marched into the Sin City and battled hard for a 96-95 victory over #4 Arizona.
On Saturday December 23rd, #14 FAU will matchup against #4 Arizona, in Las Vegas; in what has developed to be a critical non-conference matchup for both teams.
