A week ago, we were singing the praises of Tom Herman’s squad after an impressive debut against Monmouth. We all felt that this was the start of the turnaround for a team that was lackluster at best last season. In fact, it was safe to say that the attitude around campus had changed.
All the craziness of Week Zero has the college football world wondering what’s next. This is indeed with good reason. After seeing several moments of TOTAL NONSTOP DELETION (Thanks Matt Hardy) and moments that remind us why we enjoy watching these games so much, it is clear that Week One of the CFB could outshine Week One of the NFL.
For those who say that it is too early to talk rivalry week, they clearly did not pay attention to the upcoming weekend of college football. With programs in new places, new faces in new places and the shockers that came from last weekend, this is the perfect opportunity to discuss some old rivalries getting renewed, new rivalries coming down the stretch and some old-fashioned statement games as well.

Last season, the FAU Owls did not start well. They started with a one-point OT loss to Western Kentucky, and the season did not end well either. They finished 5-7 (4-4 C-USA) and cut ties with Willie Taggart. Tom Herman was inserted as the new coach and hit the ground running with the addition of new, old quarterback Casey Thompson.
Before the season started, the Pac-12 was in serious trouble. To put it mildly, they were on life support. Granted, they had ample options to right the ship before it sank. But like the Titanic, they hit a massive financial iceberg and sank to the bottom of the Pacific never to be seen or heard about again…
