FAU looks to cap off their regular season on a high note with their series against UTSA this weekend. After dropping a series at Rice this past weekend and a midweek matchup to Florida Gulf Coast, they look to change the course of their momentum heading into the AAC tournament, and position themselves the best for success come the postseason.
FAU will go back to C.J. Williams in game one, who after a couple of uncharacteristic starts in his previous outings, looks to get back to his earlier season self. It’ll be crucial for Williams to provide a good outing in game one, in order to preserve the bullpen and set the momentum for the rest of the series. The ball will then be turned to Trey Beard who looks to cap off an incredible end of year stretch and put together another career-like outing. Brandon Smith will get the ball for the Owls in the series finale.
After a football score was tallied in their midweek game against Florida Gulf Coast, the offense should be ready to swing the bats. On senior weekend, it’ll be the seniors that’ll have to step up in this series to lead the way for FAU. Spencer Rich, Jalen DeBose, Christian Adams, and Andrew McKenna will all be relied upon this weekend on the offensive end. Besides the seniors, John Schroeder and Jake Millan will look to keep up their offensive production as well.
If the FAU bullpen can put together good outings throughout this series, it should be a fairly competitive one. With UTSA sitting behind ECU for first in the conference standings, this gives FAU three chances to help position themselves better in the standings for the AAC tournament next weekend. Each game is a must win for the Owls, especially if teams like Wichita State and Tulane drop games this weekend as well.
With the recent struggles that FAU baseball has had in the final stretch of the season, this three game set provides a last chance opportunity to get momentum back on the side of the Owls and go into the postseason with some confidence.
