Pimlico Race 13 – The Black Eyed Susan

We have reached Preakness weekend, and today’s race is one of the Friday graded stakes races on their Friday 14-race program. Today we will take a look at the three-year-old fillies in the Black Eyed Susan as eight fillies will go a mile and an eighth on the main track. The post time for today’s race is set for approximately 5:44 pm Eastern time.

Favored in this graded stakes race is the 7 Corposo (5/2 ML) who comes in from California for today’s race. Corposo will be near the front here after chasing two Bob Baffert fillies in the Sana Anita Oaks. I admit that I have a hard time trying to figure out what to do with California horses when they go elsewhere because many of these races at Santa Anita (and Golden Gate Fields) are very small fields. But she does get relief in not having to face a Baffert filly or two.

It looks like the 5 Gun Song (9/2 ML) and the 8 Recharge (7/2 ML) could both go for the lead which could set things up for the rest of the field. Gun Song was on the lead in the Gulfstream Park Oaks while Recharge has gone for the lead in three of her four races, and each of the last two times out which were two turn races.

The 3 Lemon Muffin (4/1 ML) could be the beneficiary of any speed duel. You see that she did not do much in the last two races. Toss them both. She didn’t show much, but those were tougher races where Thorpedo Anna won both times in the Fantasy at Oaklawn, and last time out in the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill. But you can question if she is coming back too soon after that race two weeks ago.

The 4 Call Another Play moves up in class here after winning at Laurel Park last time out, but could be peaking at the right time. She would benefit from a speed dual like she did in her last three races.

Call Another Play will benefit from the speed duel, but Lemon Muffin will benefit more from not having to face Thorpedo Anna. Let’s call this 3-4-7-5 and my play is $20 to win on the 3. Good luck everyone!
