It’s Monday which means that it must be time for Finger Lakes. We have another juvenile maiden race here today as fillies will go five and a half furlongs.
Finger Lakes Race 6 – Maiden Special Weight
Favored in today’s race is the 6 I’m Pretty Good (3/1 morning line). She is a first time starter for a trainer who appears to have a small sample size for her training career. She has been working out at five furlongs the last few weeks getting ready for today. But her sire Good Samaritan only wins 7% of the time with two-year-olds who are first time starters.
The 3 Young At Heart (7/2 ML) is under a new trainer for this race as she was moved from Aqueduct to Finger lakes. She weakened in each of her first two races on the turf. She will shorten up to this distance for her dirt debut. Though she may be bred for the grass, sometimes you can experiment with running on the dirt like today with the class relief coming here at Finger Lakes.
The 2 Puttin in the Work (6/1 ML) has been doing just that at Belmont’s training track prepping for today. Her sire Outwork produces 16% first time winners overall and 15% as two-year-olds. He is even exceeding the averages in two-year-old races in general as well.
The 9 Country Manor (5/1 ML) is part of the first crop of 2019 Kentucky Derby winner Country House. Country Manor has run well in her three races and looks to improve after racing in the mud last time out at Finger Lakes.
Joe’s Pick
In a race where I see the favorite with some low analytical numbers here, I am taking a chance with beating the favorite here. Let’s go with Puttin in the Work who has the numbers and nice works that should help her graduate here today. I’ll call this race 2-3-6-9 and my play is $20 to win on the 2. Best of luck everyone!
