Tuesday 3/5/24 – Parx Race 9
If it’s Tuesday, that means it’s a trip to Parx, but for possibly the first time in 2024, we are not going to look at the sixth race at Parx. Instead, we will look at the featured ninth race on the ten-race card, which is one of the first two stakes of the year. This one is the City of Brotherly Love Stakes for three-year-olds going a mile and seventy yards.
Expect a sloppy track for today’s race at rain is in the forecast. The last few days have been beautiful in the Philadelphia area, but a storm is coming up the coast today.
Eight horses are entered, but the 6 Facenda (6/1 morning line) will probably be scratched. He ran in the Gotham on Saturday at Aqueduct. He had no impact on the race, and would get some major class relief if he does run.
The 4 Guanare is favored here (8/5 ML) and should be a heavy favorite here. He stalked the past the last three times out and drew off each time. He is two for two on the off going, and with the weather forecast, he will be even more formidable today. But the only question is can he get two turns here.
Things should set up nicely for Guanare if the 1 Just Step On It (6/1 ML) and the 2 Le Vin (5/1 ML) run. They are both speed and will set things up nicely for those that are late runners.
The 3 Lonesome Boy (6/1 ML) looks like he could have a similar racing style to the favorite. He’s also won twice on the slop. He failed with an experiment at Emerald Downs last summer, but run better in his most recent route race.
The 7 American War Hero (9/2 ML) has been training over the last month or two at Fair Hill in Maryland for this race. He has faced some horses with the Triple Crown trail, but will that help here? He should be behind the leaders a couple of lengths.
The 8 Capo (6/1 ML) won the PA Nursery at the end of November at a huge price wearing down rivals. He’s second race off of the layoff here, but the question is what happened last time. He’s getting a wet track and he’s going two turns, which should be a good thing with his sire’s Peace and Justice’s offspring winning at 18% both at a route of ground and on wet tracks.
I’m going to each some chalk here and take the 4 to win here. I’ll call it 4-8-3-7, and my play is $20 to win on the 4.Good luck everyone!
