The Cleveland Guardians’ home game against the Arizona Diamondbacks was rained out Tuesday, setting up an afternoon doubleheader for Wednesday.
The start of Tuesday’s game was delayed by rain in the Cleveland area, and ongoing inclement weather led officials to call the game off roughly 90 minutes after first pitch had been scheduled.
Instead, Arizona and Cleveland will conclude their series Wednesday with a traditional doubleheader beginning at 1:10 p.m.
The Diamondbacks were planning to start left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez in his season debut. He had been on the injured list since March due to a shoulder strain. The Guardians were scheduled to start right-hander Ben Lively.
Now, Lively (10-6, 3.42 ERA) will pitch the first game of the doubleheader against Arizona right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (5-6, 3.97), and in Game 2, Rodriguez will debut against Cleveland righty Carlos Carrasco (3-9, 5.53).
The Guardians entered Tuesday with the best record in baseball, while the D-backs won the series opener 7-6 in 10 innings on Monday.
