The New York Mets placed closer Edwin Diaz on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a shoulder impingement.
In a corresponding move, the Mets recalled left-hander Josh Walker from Triple-A Syracuse.
Diaz, 30, last pitched Saturday, when he blew yet another save, that time against the San Francisco Giants. It was the fourth consecutive blown lead in a ninth-inning appearance for Diaz, three of which were save opportunities.
He appeared in the seventh inning Friday against the Giants. Diaz hasn’t recorded a save since May 6.
Diaz, who missed the 2023 season after injuring his knee at the World Baseball Classic, is 17-30 lifetime with a 3.05 ERA and 210 saves in 424 relief appearances for the Seattle Mariners (2016-18) and Mets. Diaz signed a five-year, $102 million deal in November 2022.
Walker, 29, is 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA in eight relief appearances this season.
