LSU Champions
LSU has been on a roll with winning national championships in women’s basketball and now baseball also. Let’s go back to during women’s March Madness when the LSU women basketball team won the national championship and they are known for doing a gesture with the ring finger showing people that they got a ring.
But first let talk about the women’s basketball team.The team was ran by Kim Mulkey in your second season at LSU she went 34-2 in the regular season and 15-1 in conference play. Then when they went into March madness they won every game and had a battle with Iowa for their national championship.
During that game the Iowa player everyone was talking about was Catlin Clark. To start we learn that during this game that Catlin Clark got a technical foul during the game and that set the tune for the rest of the game.
Now let’s talk about Kim Mulkey and how she made this team successful. She started her coaching career at Baylor in the 2000-2001 season and was there until the 2020-2021 season. During her time her record was 632-104 with three national championships with them and she went to LSU the next season.
During her first season at LSU she went 26-6 and went into the second round. This is how successful she was and she has made a way to make a great team and build a successful team. Kim Mulkey is also a three time Associated Press College Basketball Coach of the Year.
Now let’s move on to the baseball program and how they are doing so well to win the national championship.The program was under Paul Mainieri until 2021 when he retired a new coach was brought on. The new coach is Jay Johnson the former head coach of the Arizona Wildcats baseball team so LSU hired someone that has some experience with coaching and playoffs.
Jay Johnson record with the wildcats before he was hired at LSU was 208-114 record and one college world series appearance. In his first season at LSU he went 40-22 and made it to the regional round. Then next season which was this year the LSU team went 54-17 and finished second in the conference.
Then they faced elimination vs wake forest but they ended up coming back against them. Then they met with a SEC conference opponent of Florida where they lost badly to them with the final score being 24-4 which is a 20 run differential that is a lot of runs.
Then in the next game they came back, winning the game 18-4. What a big turn around for them. The LSU team has tons of players that are entered in the current MLB Draft and they have Dylan Crews who is predicted to be like a top pick in the current draft.
The next thing we should see is if LSU football Brian Kelly can be the next coach to win a national championship in their second year. WIll the LSU athletics stay hot and keep winning championships or will they have a streak to end. With LSU baseball winning the College World Series it makes it the fourth straight year a SEC school won the College World Series.
During the Women’s run they were at large bid for the March madness. They made their first final four appearance since 2008 so they try to make more history, Now onto the ring finger gesture and how it became to what it is today.
During the LSU vs. Iowa game Angel Reese made a gesture pointing her ring finger to Catlin Clark and during it Reese received a ton of criticism over it and people think it was not the right thing to do. Now we looked at their baseball team in the game as well so it seems like it is a staple for LSU sports. What are your thoughts on the ring gesture and will LSU stay hot and win more championships.
