SEATTLE, WA. – In Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season, the New York Giants earned a pivotal win against the Seattle Seahawks with a score of 29-20, bringing their record to 2-3 and dealing a blow to the Seahawks, who fell to 3-2.
This game was critical for the Giants, as they sought to rebound from a rough start to the season, especially after a close loss to division rivals the Dallas Cowboys last Thursday, and it was filled with key moments, standout performances, and high drama, particularly in the second half.
First Half Recap
The first quarter of the game was a defensive showcase, with both teams struggling to establish any real offensive momentum. Early on, the Seahawks struck first with a 102 yard fumble recovery from Rayshawn Jenkins all the way from the opposing goal-line, setting a franchise record for longest fumble recovery in franchise history.
The Giants’ offense, on the other hand, had trouble getting into a rhythm. Daniel Jones faced a ferocious Seattle pass rush, which resulted in multiple early sacks and a continuous stain on the Giants struggling offensive line.
The offensive line, a known weak point for New York this season, allowed Jones to be sacked three times in the first half, continuing a troubling trend that has hampered their ability to sustain drives. However, Jones remained resilient, connecting with his receivers on key third-down plays to keep the Giants in the game.
Finally, Jones connected with Wide Receiver Wan’Dale Robinson for a quick 7 yard TD pass to tie the game.
As the game progressed, the Giants began to build momentum. Graham Gano added a 38-yard field goal just before halftime, giving the Giants their first lead of the day. However, Seattle quickly responded, with Jason Myers kicking a 43-yard field goal, sending the teams into the locker room tied at 10
The third quarter saw the Giants take control. Darius Slayton, the standout receiver of the game, caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Jones, putting New York up 17-10.
Slayton’s performance was crucial throughout the game, finishing with 122 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Giants’ defense also came up big, forcing a fumble from Seattle’s star receiver DK Metcalf, which was recovered by Giants safety Tyler Nubin.
Seattle managed to narrow the gap with another field goal from Myers, but the Giants continued to apply pressure. Gano added a 31-yard field goal late in the third quarter, extending New York’s lead to 20-13.
The final quarter saw the Giants pull away for good. Jones continued his efficient play, while the defense kept Seattle’s Geno Smith and their offense in check. Gano added two more field goals, putting the game out of reach. Smith, despite a solid 284-yard passing performance, couldn’t find the end zone when it mattered most.
Dexter Lawrence was a force on defense for the Giants, recording three sacks and consistently disrupting Seattle’s offensive line.
This dominant performance helped seal the game, as the Giants finished strong with a critical blocked field goal late in the fourth quarter, returning it for a touchdown, halting Seattle’s comeback attempt.
