FC Dallas fired coach Nico Estevez on Sunday, promoting assistant coach Peter Luccin to the top job on an interim basis.
Estevez, 44, had coached the club since 2022 and compiled a 28-27-29 regular-season record. The club drew 1-1 with Minnesota United on Saturday to fall to 3-8-5 (14 points), tied for 12th in the 14-team Western Conference.
“It is always a difficult decision to part ways with your head coach,” FC Dallas president Dan Hunt said in a statement. “A great deal of thought and deliberation went into this move as it is still early in the season. We believe a coaching change is in the best interest of the club. I want to thank Nico for everything he has done for the club, including some great playoff memories.”
Dallas made the playoffs in each of Estevez’s first two seasons. After a conference semifinal berth in 2022, the Toros did not get out of the first round last year.
